Mission Statement

the accuracy of the judicial records of the Cowlitz County Superior Court
while serving the public, courts and legal community in a courteous,
professional and expedient manner." |

The County Clerk is the
administrator of the Superior Court Clerk’s Office. This position
is responsible for seeing that all state mandated laws pertaining to the
Clerk’s Office are carried out.
The Clerk’s Office is
responsible for keeping the permanent records of all cases filed in
Superior Court. The type of cases filed are felony criminal cases, civil
lawsuits, petitions for protection from domestic violence, family law
matters (dissolutions 3rd Party Custody, parenting plans, modifications) probates,
guardianships, Last Will & Testaments,
paternities, adoptions and mental commitments.
The Clerk’s Office collects and disburses monies for restitution,
court costs, fines, child support, trust accounts, garnishments and
fees.
Deputy
Clerks must attend any proceeding held in court and make a record called
“Clerk’s minutes”. The clerks are also responsible for marking and
securing all exhibits entered in jury trials and court hearings.
The Clerk’s Office is also
responsible for Jury Management for both District and Superior Courts by
summoning prospective jurors and processing all juror questionnaires.
