On August 31, 2010 the Cowlitz County Board of Commissioners adopted Ordinance No. 10-089 regarding County E911 excise taxes, effective January 1, 2011.

Effective January 1, 2011, new legislation (Substitute Senate Bill 6846, Chapter 19, Laws of 2010, 1st Special Session) requires providers of local exchange services, radio communications services and interconnected VoIP services to remit both state and county Enhanced 911 (E911) excise taxes to the Washington State Department of Revenue.
