Description
of the Program
The
mission of this program is to assure that children with special
health care needs are given the opportunity to achieve optimal
health.
Children with special
health care needs are those who have ongoing health problems that
affect their physical, cognitive or mental health, and who need
health services beyond what is generally required.
Examples of such
conditions include asthma, autism, cancer, cerebral palsy, Down
Syndrome, cleft lip, cleft palate, cystic fibrosis, attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder, speech/language delay, sickle cell
anemia, diabetes, juvenile arthritis, epilepsy, blindness, hearing
loss, gross and motor delay.
The Children with
Special Health Care Needs program was developed to help children
with these types of chronic illnesses or significant disabilities
obtain health related services.
