Description
of Program
This program focuses on hazards caused by
mold present in homes and schools, as well as indoor air quality.
One of the
objectives is to educate and
assist the public in regard to mold issues in their homes. Molds are a form of fungi that thrive in warm, moist
places. Exposure to molds occur when molds are disturbed and become
airborne; directly handling moldy materials and absorbing
through the skin; and eating moldy food.
Most common molds
are not a concern to a healthy person. If you have allergies or
asthma, you may be sensitive to molds, and may experience skin rash,
runny nose, eye irritation, cough, congestion and aggravation of
asthma. If you have immune system suppression or underlying lung
disease, you may be at increased risk for fungal infections from
molds. In addition, some molds produce mycotoxins, which may cause
fatigue, nausea, headaches, and
respiratory and eye distress.
