Project Lifesaver

Cowlitz County Search & Rescue (CCSAR), in cooperation with the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office, has launched a program called Project Lifesaver.  This life saving effort is a program in which persons with the potential of walking away from a caregiver or home (typically Alzheimer's, etc.) can be outfitted with a bracelet that emits a unique radio signal.  If a walkaway occurs, the family or caregiver calls 9-1-1 to make an immediate report.  Along with the normal law enforcement response, CCSAR will deploy SAR personnel with the Project Lifesaver equipment.  Trained personnel will then activate the tracking equipment to help locate the walkaway.  Assuming no vehicle is involved, and a quick call to 9-1-1 occurs, many walkaways are found within an hour.
